Kundli matching FAQ

What are the 8 kootas?

Varna (1), Vashya (2), Tara (3), Yoni (4), Graha Maitri (5), Gana (6), Bhakoot (7) and Nadi (8): 36 points in total. Each looks at a different traditional dimension, from temperament to emotional harmony.

Is a low score a bad sign?

No. Guna Milan is one classical lens. Many happy couples have modest scores, and classical texts describe several exceptions. Use it to start a conversation, not to make a decision.

What is Nadi dosha?

When both Moons fall in the same Nadi group, the Nadi koota scores 0. Classical texts list exceptions, such as the same nakshatra in different padas, which we note without changing the score.

What does the Mangal check mean?

It notes whether Mars sits in houses 1, 2, 4, 7, 8 or 12. This is very common, tradition treats it as balanced when both charts have it, and it is not a cause for worry.

How Guna Milan is calculated

Ashtakoota matching compares the sidereal Moon in both charts. Varna and Vashya come from the Moon sign; Tara, Yoni, Gana and Nadi from the nakshatra; Graha Maitri from the friendship between the two Moon-sign lords; and Bhakoot from how many signs apart the two Moons are. Ishara computes each step deterministically and shows its working, so you can verify it.
