Vimshottari is the most widely used planetary period system in Vedic astrology. Its 120-year cycle divides among the nine grahas in a set order and sequence of years, beginning from the lord of your birth nakshatra.
Ketu 7, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19 and Mercury 17 — totalling 120 years before the cycle repeats.
A Mahadasha is a planet’s major period (e.g. 20 years of Venus). Inside it, each of the nine grahas runs a sub-period, or Antardasha, of proportional length, adding nuance to every phase.
In Vimshottari, no two people live the same Dasha at the same age — the sequence springs from your own birth star.
